Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started

Do you offer a free consultation? Yes. I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation. It’s a low-pressure way for us to talk about what you’re looking for, ask questions, and get a sense of whether working together feels like a good fit. You can book your consultation here.

Do you see clients in person or online? At this time, I work exclusively via telehealth. If you are seeking therapy for your child, we can talk about whether telehealth is a comfortable and developmentally appropriate option for them.

What ages do you work with? I work with children (6-12), teens (13-17), and adults. I also support parents and families when guidance around communication, regulation, or behavioral challenges would be helpful.

What are your credentials? I am a Licensed Social Work Associate Independent Clinical (LSWAIC) in Washington State (SC61688569). I hold a Master of Social Work (MSW) and a Master of Education (MEd). I practice under the supervision of Sarah Welch (LW60960218). Learn more about me here.

What is neurodivergent-affirming care? Neurodivergent-affirming care views ADHD, Autism, and other neurodivergences as natural brain differences—not problems to fix. Together, we focus on understanding how your brain works, honoring sensory needs, reducing shame, and creating supports that align with your strengths.

The Therapy Process

What should I expect in the first session? Our first session is a collaborative conversation. I’ll ask about what brings you in, what’s been feeling difficult, and what you’re hoping to shift. There’s no pressure to share anything before you’re ready.

  • For kids: The initial session includes time with parents and time with your child so everyone feels supported.

  • For teens: We prioritize privacy while also setting clear agreements about what safety-related information will be shared with caregivers.

How long does therapy take? There’s no set timeline for healing. Some clients find meaningful relief within 3–6 months; others value a longer-term therapeutic relationship. We will check in regularly about your goals to ensure the work continues to feel supportive and relevant.

What is your cancellation policy? I require 24 hours’ notice for cancellations. Late cancellations or no-shows are billed at the full session fee, as your appointment time is reserved specifically for you.

The late cancellation fee is waived if you reschedule the appointment within six days of the missed session. You can cancel, reschedule, and view available times on the secure client portal.

Are sessions recorded? No. Sessions are never recorded. Your privacy and confidentiality are a top priority.

Do you prescribe medication? No. As a clinical social worker, I do not prescribe medication. If medication might be helpful, I’m happy to collaborate with your primary care provider or psychiatrist.

Fees & Insurance

Do you take insurance?  For individual clients age 13+, I accept:

  • Premera

  • Lifewise

  • Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield

For child and family therapy, and for anyone with other insurance, I am considered out-of-network. Many PPO plans offer out-of-network benefits, which may reimburse part of your session fee.

What are your fees? I offer sliding scale options, however these are my current standard rates:

  • 60-minute individual intake session: $160

  • 50-55 minute individual session (Age 13+): $140

  • 30-minute child/family/caregiver session: $100

How do superbills work? If you’d like to use out-of-network benefits, I can provide a monthly superbill (a detailed receipt). You submit it to your insurance company, and they determine reimbursement.

Before beginning therapy, I recommend calling the number on the back of your insurance card to ask about your out-of-network mental health benefits.

Do you offer a sliding scale? I offer a limited number of reduced-fee slots based on financial need. If cost is a barrier, please reach out and we can explore available options.

What is a Good Faith Estimate? Under the No Surprises Act, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate outlining the expected costs of your care. I will provide this before our first session so there are no financial surprises.

Telehealth

What technology do I need for telehealth?

You’ll need:
• A device with a camera
• A private, quiet space
• A stable internet connection

Headphones can improve privacy. Sessions take place on a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform.

For Parents (Child & Teen Therapy)

Will I be involved in my child’s therapy? Yes—parent involvement is essential, though it looks different based on age.

  • Kids (6–12): We’ll have regular parent check-ins to share strategies and insights.

  • Teens (13-17): In Washington State, anyone age 13 or older has the legal right to consent to their own mental‑health care and holds authority over their treatment records. If a teen wants parents or caregivers to be involved, they must sign a release of information — unless disclosure is required by law due to safety or other urgent concerns. RCW 70.02.265  RCW 71.34.530

My child is anxious about starting therapy. How can I help? This is very common. You can show them my photo so they know who they’ll be meeting. It may also help to bring a comfort item such as a stuffed animal, toy, or fidget. I also offer games and creative activities they can choose from to ease into the process.

Do you offer parent-only sessions? Yes. If your child (6-12) isn’t ready for therapy—or if you’re seeking support around emotional regulation, behavior, parenting strategies, or school concerns—we can work together directly without your child present.

Do you provide documentation for school accommodations (504/IEP)? Yes. I can provide letters, treatment summaries, or recommendations to support school accommodations. With your permission, I can also collaborate with school teams as needed.

Other Common Questions

Do you work with couples? At this time, I do not provide couples therapy. However, I do work with parents and co-parents when communication or family support would be beneficial.

Do you offer evening or weekend appointments? I currently offer sessions on weekday mornings, afternoons, and some evenings. If you need evening availability, feel free to reach out.
